Our Services
ABA Therapy Services
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has been shown to be effective for teaching new skills and decreasing challenging behaviors with children with Autism as well as those with diagnoses (e.g., Down Syndrome), acquired a traumatic brain injury or feeding difficulties.
ABA principles can be used to make socially significant changes for an individual by systematically assessing and intervening for their behaviors and skills.
Our Process
Initial Assessment
- Interviewing caregivers about the client
- Functional Assessment Screening Tool (FAST).
- Direct observation
- Supplemental assessments may vary depending upon age of client
Some additonal information may be needed including:
- IEP Plans
- Psychological Evaluation
- Speech/OT/PT Evaluation
- Previous Functional Behavior Assessments
- Diagnosis information
Treatment Plan
After completing the assessment we will have a comprehensive insight into our clients current situation. From there we will create an individualized treatment plan to address any behaviors of concern or deficits identified.
Treatment
Direct services include direct client therapy as well as parent training (described below). The therapy schedule will be based on the clinical need of the client and client availability.
All sessions will be provided by a registered behavioral technician (RBT) under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
ABA Assessment and Testing
The extensive array of skills that are assessed by ABA tests includes those related to motor imitation (i.e., gross & fine motor skills), language, independent play, social play, linguistic structure, classroom and group skills, and other developmental impairments that may be barriers to success. While some assessments measure skill sets and deficits in skill acquisitions other assessments focus on reducing mild active behaviors.
Assessments for behaviors can be used to identify a number of factors that may influence the occurrence of problem behavior.
Parent Training
Participating in parent training may maximize the effectiveness of the interventions utilized by the clinical staff. Parent training is delivered using Behavioral Skills training (BST). BST is an evidence-based training method that has been shown to be effective in teaching people all sorts of skills from tying shoes to improving social skills. BST involves four critical components: instruction (i.e., saying what to do), modeling (i.e., showing what to do), rehearsal (i.e., practicing what to do), and feedback (Dogan et. al., 2017).
